Design & Technology

At Key Stage 4 you may choose one of the following courses:

· D&T (Product Design)

· D&T (Textiles)

You will complete a core section of the course that is the same for all D&T GCSEs. Your controlled assessment will be completed in your chosen material area.

You will answer questions in the exam about your chosen material area and broadly across all material areas.

 

The core section of the course covers:

· development of a broad knowledge of materials, components and technologies and practical skills to develop high quality, imaginative and functional prototypes

· becoming an independent and critical thinker who can adapt your technical knowledge and understanding to different design situations

 

You will also complete a design and make a project where you will learn to:

· develop realistic design proposals as a result of the exploration of design opportunity

· use your imagination, and experimentation to combine ideas when designing

· develop the skills to critique and refine your own

ideas whilst designing and making

· communicate your design ideas and decisions using different media and techniques 

· develop decision making skills, including the planning and organisation of time and resources when managing our own project work

· develop making skills to allow you to make a working prototype
