Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium, introduced in 2011, is funding received from the Government with the aim of improving educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils.

Those students who are in receipt of Free School Meals, or who have had Free School Meals in the last 6 years, are eligible for support with this Premium, as are students who are currently in care.

Mr Keep oversees the use of the Pupil Premium grant and his aims are to strategically use the allocated funding to:

  • Provide additional educational support to improve the progress and to raise the standard of achievement for these pupils
  • Close the gap as rapidly as possible between the achievement of these pupils and their peers of similar ability.
  • Use the additional funding to address any underlying inequalities between children eligible for the Pupil Premium and those who are not.

Since we have been in receipt of the Premium, a key aspect of our spending has been on improving the levels of literacy and numeracy at Key Stage 3 since this is where the greatest impact can be made, enabling students to access the whole curriculum.

The Pupil Premium funding has also been used in conjunction with the Recovery Premium, specifically targeting students who entered the school with below level 4 in English or Mathematics in Year 7.
