Our Houses

At The Grange School, our House system is at the heart of school life.

Every student belongs to one of three Houses: Mudeford, Southbourne or Hengistbury. Named after the beautiful local beaches that surround our community, our Houses provide students with a sense of identity, belonging and pride from the moment they join our school.

We believe that young people thrive when they feel connected to something bigger than themselves. Our Houses bring students together across year groups, create opportunities for students to contribute to school life and help every student feel that they are an important part of our community.

Our HousesMore Than a Competition

While Houses compete for points, rewards and House honours throughout the year, the House system is about much more than winning.

Houses provide opportunities for students to work together, celebrate success, support one another and develop friendships across different year groups.

Through healthy competition, students learn how to contribute to a team, demonstrate leadership, show resilience in defeat and celebrate success with humility and gratitude.

House Competitions

Throughout the year, students can earn points for their House through a wide range of activities and events.

These may include:

  • Sporting competitions
  • Academic challenges
  • Attendance and achievement rewards
  • Creative and performing arts events
  • Charity and community projects
  • Whole-school House competitions

Every contribution matters, giving all students opportunities to support their House and experience success.

Enrichment and Participation

Our Houses encourage students to get involved in the wider life of the school.

Whether participating in clubs, performances, sporting events, enrichment activities or community projects, students can represent their House, develop new skills and discover talents they may not have realised they possessed.

The House system helps ensure that every student has opportunities to participate, contribute and feel connected to school life.

Student Leadership

The House system also provides valuable leadership opportunities.

Students can take on responsibilities as House Captains, representatives or event leaders, helping to organise activities, promote participation and represent the views of others.

These experiences help students develop confidence, responsibility and the ability to work collaboratively with others.

Building Community

One of the greatest strengths of our House system is the sense of community it creates.

Houses bring together students from different year groups, encouraging friendships, support and shared experiences. Older students become role models for younger students, and successes are celebrated collectively.

The House system helps create a culture where students feel seen, valued and proud to belong.

Houses and the GRANGE Virtues

Our House system plays an important role in bringing our GRANGE virtues to life.

Through House events, competitions, leadership and community activities, students have opportunities to demonstrate:

  • Gratitude by recognising and celebrating the contributions of others.
  • Resilience by persevering through challenges and setbacks.
  • Ambition by striving to achieve their personal and collective best.
  • Neighbourliness by supporting teammates and welcoming others.
  • Generosity by giving their time, effort and talents in service of their House and community.
  • Empathy by showing understanding, encouragement and respect for others.

Every House event, competition and opportunity provides students with the chance to practise what it means to be a GRANGER.

Belonging Through Houses

At The Grange School, we want every student to feel proud of who they are and proud to belong.

Our Houses provide students with a team to represent, a community to support them and opportunities to contribute in meaningful ways.

Whether competing, leading, participating or simply cheering others on, every student has a place within our House community.

Through Mudeford, Southbourne and Hengistbury, students discover that belonging is not just about being part of a school. It is about being part of a community that celebrates effort, values contribution and encourages everyone to thrive.
