Head of School's Welcome

Welcome to The Grange School.
At The Grange, we believe that every young person deserves to be known, valued and given the opportunity to succeed. We are a school where community, inclusion and success go hand in hand, because young people achieve most when they feel that they belong, that they matter and that the adults around them believe in them.
We are proud to be an inclusive school. Every student is unique, and we recognise that success will look different for different young people. For one, it might mean securing the grades they need for sixth form; for another, discovering a talent, developing confidence, taking on a leadership role or overcoming a barrier that once seemed impossible.
But inclusion does not mean lowering expectations. It means removing the barriers that stand in the way of high expectations.
We want every student to aim high, and we take our responsibility to help them get there seriously. That means knowing our students well, understanding what they need and providing the right support, challenge and encouragement. We build the scaffolding that helps young people climb higher, not because we expect less of them, but because we believe they are capable of more.
This was reflected in our most recent Ofsted inspection in April 2026. Inspectors recognised the strength of our inclusive approach, noting that pupils who face barriers to learning typically receive the support they need and that teaching, on the whole, reduces those barriers. They also recognised that pupils generally make good progress and are well prepared for their next steps.
Just as importantly, Ofsted recognised something fundamental to The Grange: our relationships matter. Staff quickly develop positive relationships with students, helping them develop a sense of belonging, while students feel safe and confident that adults will support them when they need help.
We are a small school, but we have big ambitions. Our size means that students are known. Their strengths, challenges, interests and aspirations matter to us. There are opportunities to contribute, to lead, to discover new interests and to make a difference to the community around them.
Education at The Grange is about much more than examination results. Qualifications matter because they open doors and give young people choices for their future, but we also want our students to leave us with confidence, character, resilience, independence and a sense of responsibility for themselves and others.
We are proud of the many different paths our students take after The Grange. Some progress to sixth form, others to college, apprenticeships, training or employment. What matters is that each young person is ready for their next step, with the qualifications, skills and character to make the most of the opportunities ahead. Ofsted recognised that our students are well prepared for their next stages in education, training or employment.
At The Grange, we believe that high expectations and strong support belong together.
We expect students to attend regularly, behave well, work hard, show respect and take responsibility for themselves and their community. And when a student finds something difficult, we do not lower the bar. We work harder to help them reach it.
That is The Grange: a school where students know they belong, where they are known and valued as individuals, where difference is embraced, and where every young person is encouraged and supported to aim high.
We are proud of who we are.
We are ambitious about where we are going.
And above all, we believe passionately in what our students can achieve.
I look forward to welcoming you to The Grange School.
