Year 10 Engineering Trip

The Year 10 Engineering group recently visited Bournemouth International Airport looking at potential careers within aeronautical engineering. They visited Signature TechnicAir, a worldwide aircraft maintenance company, and spoke with a number of staff including Philip Lammiman the Managing Director. Various job roles, earnings and potential careers were discussed whilst staff demonstrated some of the tasks they complete when servicing an aircraft. The students were very lucky to be able to sit in the cockpit of a $50 million private jet they are currently working on.

The group then visited Cobham PLC where they viewed the maintenance hangar of the familiar dark blue jets that we regularly see flying over Christchurch. The students were told of the various business activities and links that Cobham have worldwide including flight refuelling and working with the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force testing their weapons responses and radar jamming. They were also able to talk to an apprentice about what he does, his future plans and career.
