Significant improvement in GCSE results for The Grange School.

With outstanding BTEC results and a significant improvement in the number of students gaining the equivalent of 9 – 4 (A*-C) in English and Maths, our students have much to celebrate.

Our Heads of School, Liz Garman and Pete Nealon, commented: “We are absolutely delighted with our students’ GCSE and BTEC results and at a time when the government has deliberately made GCSEs harder, our students have risen to that challenge and fully deserve to be congratulated on their achievements.  The school has started a journey over the last twelve months and these results are an indicator of the progress that has been made so far. We expect this progress to continue year on year into the future".

A stunning 10 students gained the top grades (either 7+ or D/D* equivalent to A/A*) for at least five of their subjects. These were: Naomi Austin, Zenna Gomez, James Hancock, Marshall Hill, Jacob Larner, Tommi Lindsey, Ryan Murphy, Jade Rawles, Elysia Wood and Daniel Wowkula.

Particular mention should go to Tasmin and Zenna who gained the very top, 9 grade or D* in 4 of their subjects.

Overall, 63% of the students gained 9 – 4 (A*-C) in English and 60% gained 9 – 4 (A*-C) in mathematics meaning that 56% of students gained the equivalent of 9 – 4 (A*-C) in both English and mathematics. 50% of the students gained five or more A*-C (or equivalent 4+) grades including English and mathematics. These results show a great improvement, especially with the more rigorous examinations in most subjects. The percentage of the students achieving a ‘strong’ pass of a Grade 5 or above in English and Maths has increased significantly by 13.5%, those that have achieved grade of 4 an above in English and Maths has  also strongly increased by 10% to 56%.   The school would also like to share the progress made in Science where 56% of students have achieved a grade 4 or above indicating improvements of over 20%.

Our Level 2 BTEC results were outstanding again this year with students celebrating a 100% pass rate. We are delighted that so many students received the BTEC Distinction star and Distinction, the equivalent of A*/A at GCSE. The results were stunning, with Business Studies achieving 82%, Creative Digital Media production 59%, Engineering 18%, Health and Social Care 37%, Hospitality 61%,  and Sport 30% all at D*/D demonstrating just why the school was awarded the national BTEC School of the Year for 2017.

In a truly comprehensive school, these are outstanding achievements and we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the students and to thank their teachers, the support staff and their parents for enabling them to do so well.

With this improvement in outcomes, we would like to take the opportunity to invite prospective students and parents to visit our school to see what their children are capable of with us. We have spaces in Year 7 and are happy to arrange a tour.
