Assessment:

There will be two internal assessments (component 1 and 2) which will be through Pearson Set assignments, which require several tasks to be written with reference to student notes but conducted under exam conditions.

There is also one examined assessment which will be in the form of an externally marked exam (component 3).

Who is the course for?

This course is for students who have an interest in the Health & Social Care Sector for example; the world of nursing, counselling, social work and physiotherapy. You’ll learn essential skills such as communication and team work, and gain a full understanding of the various career opportunities available in this area. You should be empathetic and compassionate and have a keen interest in learning how to maintain health. You will want to learn about how different conditions impact our bodies and how to support people who are unwell and how to stay healthy physically and mentally.

What will I do on the course?

  • Learning how to interpret physiological data to assess an individual’s health such as reading pulse rates, knowing healthy blood pressure and BMI readings. You will be able to design a plan to improve an individual’s health and wellbeing, whilst developing an understanding of a variety of different health conditions.
  • You will look in to the values that are important to the sector and the services and professionals involved in health and social care, including the 6C’s and the difference between primary and secondary care.
  • You will study all areas of human growth and development across the life-stages, factors affecting people’s health and wellbeing, and the importance of different support networks.
