PSHE

We all have the ability to shape the way our lives will turn out

- Trever McDonald

PSHE and Citizenship at The Grange is designed to inspire curiosity and wonder. This is encouraged through a curriculum that aims to equip students to deal with life’s issues. We aim to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to make informed and responsible choices for themselves whilst at school and beyond. In addition to classroom-based learning, we also deliver key elements through assemblies, workshops and themed days.

Key Stage 3

We begin with a variety of topics to help students settle in to secondary school smoothly and confidently. We then progress onto investigating friendships and their value, the importance of communities and personal health and safety. During lessons, students are encouraged to reflect on their own lives and appreciate how others may be different. In Year 9 students also explore the importance of their options choices and are given the guidance required to make the right choices for a successful future.

Key Stage 4

The key stage 4 programme includes the statutory content as outlined in the National Curriculum. This includes a well-planned and age appropriate Sex and Relationships Unit, Drugs Education and Personal Wellbeing. In Year 10 students are introduced to the World Of Work which includes CV writing, interview technique and preparation for work experience. Year 11 is heavily focussed on post 16 choices and pathways. Students are given guidance and impartial advice in lessons, workshops and from visiting speakers in order to make an informed decision regarding their future.
